Beam emittance is an important diagnostic for ion beams as it represents how focused a beam is and how easily it can be transported. The pepper pot and microchannel plate system allow us to measure the beam emittance and adjust the optics of our beam to minimize the beam emittance. The previous system for the pepper pot and microchannel plate was fixed in place using flanges, but the adjustment of position is crucial in acquiring accurate measurements and making sense of the collected data.
I designed and fabricated a rail and mounting system for the pepper pot and microchannel plate to collect accurate emittance measurements. The system was designed in SOLIDWORKS and drawings were made using GD&T standards.
